When I chose to downsize my life and become a digital nomad, the world was mine to be discovered, especially during our cold Canadian winter months. Housesitting is a lifestyle that gives me tremendous joy. I get to spend time with so many great pets without the year-round responsibility and constraint of having my own. This gives me the extra benefit of discovering new places worldwide while still enjoying the company of furry friends.
I had the opportunity to housesit in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, and Oxfordshire, just outside of London England, a region neighboring the beautiful Cotswolds, how lucky am I? I absolutely love housesitting and the perks it offers. Getting free lodging while I travel the world, in exchange for my house and pet sitting services, doesn’t get much better than that.

Housesitting can sometimes be close to the beach which makes for enjoyable walks with doggies, some other times the home setting can be more rural with livestock, feathery and woolly friends. The types of lodging, location, and pet to care for vary greatly from house sitting gigs to another. Big dogs, small dogs, cats, chickens or sheep, it’s always up to you to choose which one you apply for. Admittedly, it does require a bit of a technique to land housesitting jobs at first.
